Football clubs from 1945 to 1957, including DSO/VSO (Voluntary Sports Organizations) from 1949 to 1957
In 1949, a reform of sports organizations was carried out in Bulgaria according to the Soviet model, in which traditional sports clubs were replaced by Voluntary Sports Organizations (VSOs or DSOs) associated with various economic sectors.
Seven main VSOs were created: Academic (for university teachers and students), Dynamo (for workers in communications and light industry), Energia (later renamed Torpedo, employed in transport and heavy industry), Spartak (employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs), Stroitel (workers in construction, healthcare and agriculture), Cherveno Zname (employees in local administration, trade and education) and the sports clubs of the Bulgarian People's Army.
These organizations united athletes from the relevant sectors and had branches in different cities. Despite the reform, some large clubs managed to preserve their identity. This structure existed until the early 1950s, when new reforms began in the country's sports organizations.
