The first Bulgarian football clubs appeared before 1910, but only after 1920 did they begin organised activity.
Due to the military operations in Bulgaria at that time, plans for the development of football organisational structures were delayed.

2 - On July 31, 1921, the Sofia Sports League (SSL) was established in Sofia.
- In 1922-23, four more regional sports leagues were established:
3 - Bdinska - clubs from Vidin, Lom and Berkovitsa;
4 - Yugozapadna - clubs from Pernik, Kyustendil, Dupnitsa, Radomir and Gorna Dzhumaya;
5 - Thracian - clubs from Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora, Chirpan, Asenov Grad, Haskovo, Harmanli and Nova Zagora;
6 - Primorska - clubs from Burgas, Sliven, Yambol, Pomorie and Karnobat.
